“Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” …the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For “by the sacrament of Confirmation the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.” CCC1285
To better understand the sacrament of Confirmation , watch this video with a parent (Maybe sponsor, too)!
BustedHalo.com’s fantastic introduction to the Sacraments series:
- Why do I have to get confirmed if I’m already baptized?
- How do I choose a sponsor as I prepare for confirmation?
- Why do I have the option to choose a new name?
As a baptized Catholic, you are preparing for reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation, by which you will be more perfectly bound to the Catholic Church and enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the Faith as a witness of Christ.
As a candidate for Confirmation, you should do the following:
- Attend Mass every Sunday and on all holy days of obligation.
- Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at least twice before my Confirmation.
- Accept more responsibility in your family, parish, and community by putting your talents and gifts at the service of others.
- Commit to daily prayer, praying especially for growth in faith, hope, and love.
Ask God to give you the grace to be open to his plans for your life—plans he reveals to you in prayer, in your talents and aspirations, and in the encouragement of those who know and love you. Place yourself in the loving embrace of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in asking for help in fulfilling these obligations.
