Last week we heard how important it is to say “thank you.” This week, we hear two passages which remind us of the need to be persistent in order to achieve our goals and dreams.
Too often we give up because we get tired or angry or frustrated. But Jesus reminds us in the parable of the persistent widow that we need to forge ahead, even when we are told “no” repeatedly. Furthermore, the passage from Exodus illustrates that sometimes in our quest to be persistent, we need to solicit the assistance of others. Moses was supported by Aaron and Hur in the battle against Amalek. In other words, sometimes we need to swallow our pride and ask others to help us in our battles and struggles. This is not a sign of weakness, but a realization that no one is an island. God does not expect us to handle life alone. Even though God is with us, he has given us other people to assist us and prop us up when necessary.
In our prayer life, we need to be persistent with God, but we can also enlist the help of others to pray with us for our needs. We also have divine assistance in the form of the Blessed Mother and the saints who act as intercessors for us on our behalf.
This week, resolve to be more persistent in your prayer and ask others to pray with you. As Jesus tells us, God will secure the rights of his chosen ones.
