Last week we were asked how do we respond to Jesus’ invitation to “follow me?” This week the psalm reminds us that “if today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” Yet sometimes we do harden our hearts, not intentionally of course, but they our hearts have become calloused because of our experiences. Therefore, when God calls, we are sometimes immune to hearing.
In today’s society, we hear many voices which may drown out the voice of God. We hear sports scores and chatter. We listen to the latest celebrity gossip. We may become news junkies. Sometimes we allow ourselves to go down the rabbit holes of social media. But when it comes to hearing God, we somehow fail to listen because our hearts have been hardened by other things.
I would use the analogy of plaque build-up in our arteries which can lead to heart attack or stroke. This is caused by a poor diet. Our arteries become hardened and don’t allow for adequate blood flow. How do we spiritually feed ourselves? What causes our hearts to harden toward God?

Next week is the Cupid’s Comedy event. Come out to enjoy an evening of food and fun.
