The Woman at the Well—probably one of the most famous conversations in New Testament history. It is so rich in imagery and meaning that I could write an essay. Fortunately, others have done that better than I. But I would like you to imagine yourself having this conversation with Jesus. What do you want from the Lord? What does Jesus tell you about yourself?

Remember, the woman was not popular because of her past which was checkered. She had a chip on her shoulder. Yet there was something that drew her to Jesus and allowed her to be vulnerable before him. Do we take that risk? Do we totally open ourselves up to the Lord?

Because of her encounter with Jesus, the woman evangelizes the townsfolk. She spreads the Good News of hope, and forgiveness, and love. She is challenged to let the chip drop from her shoulder and be open to what God had in store for her. Notice, Jesus did not judge; he merely observed, pointed out, and engaged her in conversation. This brief encounter led to her conversion and the conversion of the other people of that town.

How do my conversations engender hope and lead people to Christ?
