Although pilgrimages are the main activity during a Jubilee year, there are many other things we are encouraged to do as well.
Works of Devotion:
- Participate in a parish mission
- Study documents of the Vatican II Council or the Catechism of the Catholic Church
Works of Mercy:
- Visit the sick and/or prisoners
- Visit anyone who is elderly, lonely, or disabled
Works of Penance:
- Abstain from distractions (e.g., use of smartphone apps or social media) at least once a week
- Abstain from certain food and drink (fasting) at least once a week
- Donating money to the poor
- Support the work of those who defend and protect life in all its phases
- Support the ministry of those who work with abandoned children, the youth, needy or lonely elderly individuals, and migrants
- – Dedicating one’s free time to community service
As we can see from this list, there are endless ways to perform acts of love during the year, in addition to a pilgrimage. However, Archbishop Vigneron has also named 12 sites in our Archdiocese as special pilgrimage sites. Our article next week will detail these sites.
