Musings and Messages: July 9, 2023

In the midst of Summer, we have a glimpse of Advent and Lent, specifically Palm Sunday, in today’s first reading from Zechariah. As in Advent we anticipate the coming of the King, so too on Palm Sunday we recall the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem riding on a colt. And while he comes for all people, Jesus is particularly interested in those who are like little children.

The Gospel passage is often read at funerals as a reminder to the survivors to give their grief to the Lord. When we find life burdensome, give it to Jesus. When times get tough, rest for a while in the arms of our loving savior. Too often we get caught up in the whirlwind of life and we need to slow down and place our cares before the Lord in order to be rejuvenated and revived.

Take some time this Summer to rest in the Lord and take his easy yoke and light burden in order that you might have life.
Please pray for those who are going on the Mission Trip this week.

Have a great week,
Msgr. John
