As we embark on a new Church year, the readings sound similar to what we have been hearing for the past few weeks. In today’s passage from Luke’s Gospel, we listen to another piece of apocalyptic literature which challenges us to “be vigilant at all times and pray.”
This is good advice as we begin a new year. Too often we become complacent and we sometimes grow slack in our duty as Christians. But at the start of the Advent season, it is important for us to be open to hearing the voice of the Lord which means being vigilant and observant of the world around us.
What do we see happening? What is God trying to tell us? What signs and signals is the Lord sending to us? Often times, these are subtle but have great importance for our lives. As we embark on a new adventure this Advent, what changes is the Lord asking us to make in our lives so that we can become a happier, healthier, and holier person?
