Living in Michigan, as we all do, is a perfect time to think about gardening. Many of us do garden and if you don’t, you may wish to give it a try. Many gardeners, myself included, believe that they feel closest to God when they garden. So, why do so many people enjoy gardening? Let’s take a look at some of the benefits.
- Peacefulness and serenity in the outdoors
- The wonderful smell of the freshly turned earth and plants
- A chance to hear the variety of birds and view the butterflies and bees
- An opportunity of sharing the experience with a friend, a child or family member
- A chance to learn about something new
- To feel the excitement of watching your plants grow and later enjoy the fruits of your labor
- To give bees a better chance for survival and to fulfill their life’s purpose
- It is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your family to have a special time for self awareness with God…sharing this awareness with others is a lovely way to evangelize
Just being in the fresh air is sure to bring a smile to your face. Whether it’s vegetables or flowers you wish to grow, we need plants for so many reasons – most importantly to observe and experience God’s creations.
The next few weeks “Messages from the Garden” will be the topic of the Evangelization Commission’s Fish Tales. Some thoughts have been developed from the book “Mindful Thoughts for Gardeners” by Clea Danaan
