How exciting for us to have a new pope—and one who was raised in America: Pope Leo. He has many years to leave a remarkable legacy.
Let us pause for a few minutes and reflect on the legacy of the late Pope Francis, what he stood for, and what he taught us. He often told us that Jesus loved everyone and that everyone should be treated with utmost respect. He taught us about the importance of human dignity. He often reminded us of the importance of respecting our environment and how we all must take part if we are to leave this planet in better condition than we found it.
Jorge Mario Bergoglio was born on December 17, 1936, and died at age 88 on April 21, 2025. He was the first Pope to be a Jesuit and the first to come from Latin America. He became a Jesuit priest in 1969. He then became the Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998 and was elevated to the rank of Cardinal in 2001 by Pope John Paul II. He was elected the successor to Pope Benedict on March 13, 2013. He chose to live a simple life and cared deeply for the most needy.
What is something by which you will remember him?
We pray for him, and may his soul rest in peace. Next week, we will list a few of his many wonderful quotes.
